Lake Chapala Lakeside

Why choose Lake Chapala Lakeside

Foreigners have lived here for many years. Neil James, the first American Expat, a traveling National Geographic writer/photographer came here, in the early 40’s and made this her home. Many of her friends came to visit her, many were celebrated artists and writers, some stayed on. Since then, an infrastructure has been developed to support all of the foreign immigrants that have chosen to make this their home. It is one of the largest expat communities in the world and in my opinion it’s the best place, in all of Mexico or Central America for retirement living.

What makes the Lake Chapala Lakeside so unique?

It’s the people who live here. The bold adventurers, the world travelers, the people who enjoy helping others by volunteering and doing interesting things. They make this area special. in our videos, see these folks in action.

What Will You Do Here?

You, like other people who are thinking about moving to the Lake Chapala lakeside area will come because of the year-round good weather and affordable cost of living but have no idea what you will do when you move here. For one thing, many of you are newly retired and have little experience to draw on about what it’s like when there’s more free time available to you. Add to that moving to a new country, with a new culture, a new language, a tropical climate, etc.
So, there are often many questions about what life is like here; and how to make the best of this exciting time of life. To give you some answers we interviewed and videotaped expats who have moved here from Canada, the US and elsewhere who have created very active lifestyles. They’ll tell you, in their own words about the activities, events, and opportunities, that add fun and meaning to their lives.
